The above tweet that went out early this week has been churning in my mind for quite some time now. Based on a simple Twitter, I was able to somewhat streamline my blog focus for the folks who wanted to hear some insights, more maybe inspiration - or motivation - about having a job and a side hustle.
I'll be honest, though, folks. Nothing I say can garnish results. None of what is going to come from this particular blog is going to be of so much substance that you smack your boss in the job with a keyboard and walk out our your day job. Nope. What it will do, though, is motivate you to get your eternal shit together. This new series, Side Hustlers' Anthem is going to run down the creative and productive aspects of getting your creative juices flowing, as well as include some testimonials from my own experiences. Take from it what you can.
I'll just blurt it all out at once. I know you. I know who you are, and I know your situation. You're what they're calling a Millennial, whose picked up a job that pays relatively well to suffice for some bills, has medical benefits, and generally falls in line with what you're capable of doing. Capable is the keyword. It isn't what you want to do, and quite frankly, you didn't figure that out until at least the 3rd casual Friday. When it comes to growth and opportunity, the company doesn't seem so transparent, but when it comes to favoritism and drama, it couldn't be clearer. There could be opportunity, maybe in three to five years, but you're doubting if you'd even want to be at the company that long. In short, your job is "just some income to fund your real dream".
Truth be told, it's no time to feel sorry for oneself, it's time to use the Law of Conservation of Energy:
"Energy can neither be created nor destroyed; energy can only be transferred or changed from one form to another"
The same amount of energy it takes to feel sorry for us - The Millennials in this situation - is the same energy that can be used and possibly doubled to get us out of these situations. It isn't easy. It isn't always pretty. It's almost always equally terrifying, but so are meetings that could have been emails.
Instead, this blog series is going to create some tips for productivity, resources and tools to get you started, and dialogue from all sides about what it takes to get the best of both worlds. I'll be honest, this isn't a guide to break out of your full-time job. That path might not be for everybody, and also requires a lot of understanding of things I couldn't all cover. Instead, I want you to capitalize off of loopholes, hacks, habits to form, and types of people to be around. I can tell you're a little eager to get started, so subscribe to my blog for updates on when the first posts come out. Until then, prepare your lamentations because there is almost always a level of sobbing that takes place on this conversation. Sit tight kiddos, Marvel got you!
