These Are the Thoughts and Phrases That Enable You To Be the Worst Kind of You There Is.
For all posts related to Corporate American Horror Story, I want to make it very clearly known and understood that I am not some anarchist whose anti-establishment, or someone who wants to teach people to "overthrow the system". Instead, I want people to become more self-aware of the things they become as do just that: "become part of the system". I can speak to any hiring manager and can hear them say that one of the biggest things they're looking for in potential candidates is someone who is a free thinker. Someone who isn't going to wait to be told what to do, but instead take the reigns and take action.
Independent thinkers, though, are always a double-edged sword, but it really comes down to a number of factors that have nothing to do with this post. So, instead, we'll focus on thoughts and mindsets, and work to break ourselves out of the habitual ways of thinking that stifle us, and put us on the conveyor belt of thoughts. For anyone thinking of becoming an entrepreneur, or small business owner, this is increasingly important because you are building your system. Without the right mindset, you're probably not building anything worthwhile.

Whether You're Looking To Dive Into A Career, Or Venture Off Into Being An Entrepreneur, It's Time To Stop Being The Bare Minimum. In the introductory post, "A Preface To Being A Year Removed From Corporate America", I made a pretty strong statement that I want to revisit. "We go through about 20 years of our lives being either handed a schedule or given the stencil of a schedule."The first thing I want to point out is that the purpose of my Corporate American Horror Story tweets is not to tell you how God-awful working in corporate America is. I don't want to remotely sell you the idea that I'm being a revolutionary who wants you to sink the corporate ship by walking out of the office on a random Monday. Instead, I'd like to encourage you to first, change how you think of yourself in the place and space that you occupy. Second, I'd like to let you know that our generation (specifically Millennials) takes too much time suffering in certain situations. So be blessed, or take in a good lesson.
These Are the Things Your Nightmares Are Truly Made Of.
It's crazy that as I look back on the last year, I hardly noticed until a recent conversation, that I haven't had a corporate 9 to 5 job since August 5th of 2016. Most people's first reaction to hearing that is to congratulate me. In fact, among peers that's always the first reaction I get. And then I dive in more into why people actually shouldn't rush to following up with, "Everyone is trying to be like you" or "Man, that's really goals". Sure, I know everyone wants to break the cycle of monotonous working until you're 65, but the truth is, we're simply not taught how to break that cycle, and therefore, tumble into very painful trial and error that most people don't ever survive. Am I lucky? No, I am a product of more errors than trials.
To understand how I've managed to get through the past year, I have to take you back to 2014. When I could already tell that post-graduate life, and entering the work force was nowhere near as cool, fun, and educational as we all had thought it was.
Side Hustlers' Anthem: Time Management Is Always Easier Said than done, But As I See It, It's About What's Comfortable.
Experience is the best instructor. There is no doubting that. I could literally go down a list of things that, if I knew then what I know now, I would handle much differently. Maybe I would have changed my serpentine belt on my classic '93 Buick Century so it wouldn't have blown out on I-4. I would have published my first short story well within my five years at the University of South Florida. I would have branded and operated GoodKnocking as a business long before the legal filing date it was established. The list really does go on. So, for my side hustlers out there, here are some pointers about Painful Lessons Learned About Having A Side Hustle.
And before we get into the list. Trigger warning is in effect. This list is geared towards people who have hit a rut and are looking to improve their effectiveness and elevate their business and/or brand. |
