Catching Up Since Episode 004, Marvel Speaks On February Endeavors, Black Panther, OkayAfrica, and Gun Control.
InDaHouse Podcast is back. While a month off isn't bad, it has been some time since I've last been on the mic to "talk my shit again". Before I dive deep into episode 005's topics, I have to acknowledge that I was the good kind of busy in February and it's felt good to be able to make the moves I've made along the way. From speaking at the Sundial AMC in St. Petersburg for an advanced screening of Black Panther, to seeing Black Panther, to being in communication with hundreds of people preparing for the films release; to booking gigs, hosting a wedding, and seeing the release of my Florence Kasumba interview with OKayAfrica, it's all been relatively exciting. So, if you were wondering why things got a little quiet on my end, that's why.
I did receive some feedback about my last episode being a little too vulgar for a lot of ears, so we've made some changes to the layout. Our segment, OhhBeechass is now called "Topics Under the Roof" - corny, I know, but it's the best I've got for right now. Preparations for podcasts are important, and in my last episode, I've come to realize that the less you prepare, the more you wing it. Winging it ain't a bad thing, but that's how you end up with 97 expletives in a 35-minute episode.
#YOMRVL: Subscribers and listeners can take part in our segment, YoMRVL by submitting their stories, questions, and reactions on myGoodKnocking page here on WBMM. I read the questions on mic and give my responses respectively for an opportunity to create interaction, engagement, and to give true insight. Here are this week's YoMRVLs.
Last but not least, a major part of this show was spent discussing the events and the events that followed the February 14th shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. For a lot of South Floridians, we generally know this area simply as Coral Springs. That area just doesn't identify, or fit the description of somewhere that would have to face something as gruesome and politically challenging as a mass shooting. Even worse, the demographic and the people who live there don't fit the descriptions of people who lawmakers and politicans would close their ears off to, yet here we are.
Florida has officially passed a bill and is ready to enact $67MIL to train and arm teachers in Florida public schools to manage and subdue active shooters, but as for prevention, Florida lawmakers couldn't stomach the idea of banning military-style assault rifles, specifically the AR-15. Though the Stoneman Douglas students have made quite the progress in being able to have a live townhall with Florida Senators and Representatives, along with the Sheriff, and the head of the NRA, the outcome has been no different from that of, say, a Black Lives Matters townhall with police. Stone cold eyes looked these teenages straight in the face and asked them, "So, you're not one of the crisis actors?" and everything we have needed to know about gun control just got stranger. My statements are reactions on this episode deal with very heavy topics, and while I have held off on expressing my views on social media about this matter, I'm just another voice who is saying what many other people have been thinking: if guns are more important in America than suburban, A+ high schoolers, then perhaps we ought to hang up the whole fight for equality, and ending police brutality campaign because that would put African-Americans and our interests at the very bottom of the barrel. I haven't held back on my statements, and I do stand by each and every one of them. Initially, I was going to title this episode Blackity Black & Back, but I decided that I'll go with White People Are Crazy. Episode 005 is set to release this week, so be sure to subscribe to InDaHouse Podcast.
