Count it up, folks. We Missed A Meeting: They Chose You, Mr. Ferguson is finally completed, and is now available for purchase on Amazon! That's right! The book is now available. After 454 days, 13 hours, and 43 minutes, you're now given all-out access to make your purchase of my first published book, one of many acts in this We Missed A Meeting novel series. Through discipline, creative challenges, and determination to finish and publish this title, it's now out of my hands (and out of my head) and readily available via Amazon for your purchase. As you've seen in so many posts, statuses, photos, videos, podcast episodes and more, We Missed A Meeting is a challenging story about Richard Ferguson's harrowing recollection of his life in a fictional city called The D in the months following an event called The Absence. Taking place in 2020, the story has collected bread crumbs of modern pop culture, current events, and has many overtones that criticize both politics, American culture, and the pressures of young Black Millennials in the corporate workplace. As mentioned in the Introduction of the book, the story's inspiration did not come from one specific source, but instead was a cumulation of many conflicts, experiences over many years, and discussed in so many non-progressive settings: "This story, for me, is my official coming out. It's me balling up years of having a message that I couldn't find the suitable medium for. It's MyRealViciousLife, "The Black Grasshopper", "Strangers; Ears", and 234,000 tweets over 9 years worth of growth placed into a book."SYNOPSIS ACT I, or "They Chose You, Mr. Ferguson" takes place in 2020, and begins with Richard awakening to the sounds of sirens going off on his quaint, yet usually quiet side of town (a section fo town called Henderson). His neighbors, pouring into the streets are all concerned by the sounds and reveal that the highway is jammed up earlier than usual, and that there's a heavy police and ambulance presence that's causing a jam. As Richard continues throughout his day, he begins to suspect that there's more unusual instances taking place. For example, there was supposed to be a company meeting at his job, H.L. Powerman, but instead it appears that only 45 of his colleagues show up. The 45 of them, plus Richard, and eventually the intern, Iliana, are all Black and this seems to spark concern. All throughout the story, the looming discomfort of this very moment seems to haunt Richard, especially since, Richard is constantly being challenged in his position at work, and eventually in his life as the world around him seems to change under the weight of the event that comes to be called "The Absence". While the world, and Richard try to push on forward for a different future, Richard is constantly approached about his past - from people wanting payback, to people wanting answers. All throughout these conflicts, Richard, who also serves as our narrator refuses to acknowledge that these series of events are only happening because of The Absence, and just as he become comfortable in this new life, Richard is introduced to a bigger challenge, one that will force him to accept his past and create a bigger future. The themes, references, and allusions in this story are endless, and it's my hope that people not only enjoy this book for what it is - a multi-dimensional story that often times speaks directly to our world today - but also as a conversation starter about what it looks like to discuss race from the inside out and the outside in. As usual, I have to give so much thanks to the countless people who have motivated me, asked me about this book, talked to me about the subjects that surround this book and, of course, supported the journey.
